Do I need to see the space in person before booking?

Although it's not absolutely necessary it would be great to connect with you before you finalise your booking to make sure the space is right for you. Our doors are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11am-6pm, so feel free to drop in at any time to explore the space and have a chat with us about your ideas.

Do you take commission?

If you are hiring the gallery and choose the ‘Self-Managed’ option, a flat hire fee is charged and so no additional commission is taken. With this option, you choose to be there for the time of the duration of the exhibition and manage the exhibition & the sales.

If you are hiring the gallery for your own solo or group show, and choose the ‘With Gallery Manager’ option, a flat hire fee is charged along with a commission of 20%. We will be there for the opening hours and manage the space and the exhibition. We welcome you to organise an Opening Night (usually on the Thursday or Friday night) and an artist talk or afternoon tea with the artist (on the Saturday or Sunday).

If you are entering a Group Show that ARTROOM has organised, along with the entry fee there will be a commission taken on sold works, usually 30%. In our group shows, we curate and hang the show, organise the Opening Night, manage the exhibition and organise sales. So the artists displaying their works in our group shows are charged commission to mitigate these costs.

Occasionally we will also hold Art Markets showcasing the work of artists and artisans. In this case, we will be charging a stallholder fee only and no commission is taken on your sales.

I Have Booked a set Hire Time: Who installs & de-installs the exhibition?

When you hire the Gallery directly for a set time, you will be responsible for the curation, installation and de-installation of your exhibition.

I Have Booked a set Hire Time: Who Managers the exhibition?

If you are hiring the gallery and choose the Self-managed option, you choose to be there for the time of the exhibition and manage the exhibition & the sales.

If you are hiring the gallery and choose the ‘With Gallery Manager’ option, we will be there to open up the gallery, manage the exhibition and sales and close up at the end of each day. We welcome you to organise an Opening Night (usually on the Thursday or Friday night) and an artist talk or afternoon tea with the artist (on the Saturday or Sunday).

If you are entering a Group Show that ARTROOM have organised, we manage the exhibition and sales.

When does the hire time start & finish?

Your booking will begin on the day of your hire and you are welcome to arrive anytime from 8am to bump in. Your bump out is on the last day of your booking and ends at 6pm.

When are THE opening hours?

We have variable opening times depending on exhibitions and events. When group exhibitions are on, the gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday 11am - 6pm.

What are the options for displaying work?

We have the Gallery Hanging system so your frames and canvases (installed with D-rings) can be easily hung.

Drilling into walls allowed is not allowed, so alternatively you can also use magnets and/or removable sticky hooks for light frames/canvases.

There are limited plinths and tables for sculptural works and so you will need to organise these separately.

Is there a kitchen and bathroom?

Yes, both are located in the back section.

Is there parking?

There is no on-site parking however for bump in and bump out, there is access to the loading dock behind the property.

Both the Italian Forum and the Norton Plaza have 2 hours of free parking, but we recommend the Italian Forum as they are only a few minutes walk away. Norton Street has limited, 30-minute parking, and there are some local streets with unlimited parking.
